President Maithripala Sirisena is reported to have said at the Cabinet meeting yesterday that the payments made to the Ministers and MPs amounted to be honorariums, and therefore they could not be considered for taxation.
The President reportedly said the MPs had an honorific before their names, and therefore, what they drew from the State could not be seen as salaries but as honorariums.
Honorariums are payments given for professional services that are rendered nominally without charge.
The President made these remarks in the event of some Ministers complaining earlier that they had been made heavily liable for the PAYE Tax (Pay As You Earn Tax). (Kelum Bandara)

Do the 'contributions' they get also come under honorariums?

Once Lord Bhudda had asked a maiden in distress 'to bring some mustard seed from a house in which no one has died.” We have the same problem. To find a MP with honour.

We never called politicians as Honorable. They are calling themselves as Honorable, and claim that they are receiving honorariums. Even the amounts they get from businessmen must also be honorariums. If this definition by President is correct, all in private sector can advertise for positions and offering honorarium for the services done.

unreasonable, unreasonable, unreasonable,, When to draw a bloody unethical pension for been 5 years in parliament as MP, its a salary. when coming to PAYE, it's honorarium? why the double standard, remove their salary, give them an allowance, super luxury is unnecessary burden to the country, most sell it an earn collect money from well-wishers such as Aloysius,we poor and lower middle class have to shoulder the burden by paying taxes and fines,
