There are several incidents where some parties from the affluent class demanding health officials to show influence in obtaining COVID-19 vaccine making them unable to perform their duties as per the priority list, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.

He told media that everyone should have the patience until they get their turn to receive the vaccine.

“It is in fact unfair to make unnecessary requests and throwing their weight behind the health officials to obtain the vaccine,” he said.

“We have prepared the vaccination plan and there are priority groups. Hence, we can’t act outside the vaccination framework,” Dr. Herath added.

He also underlined that they had no intention of withholding the vaccination programme from anyone.

“Our intention is to vaccinate everyone and ensure everyone is secure. Therefore, we urge people to be patient until their turn arrives,” Dr. Herath added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Useless making utterances after the Vaccine stock is near over. The statement initially made by the head of the Vaccination Project Lalith Weeratunga that nobody will be permitted to jump the queue in the priority list, should have been strictly implemented.

The affluent class emptied the Super Market shelves in no time when the first lockdown was imminent. Selfishness is more harmful than Covid. Let the people living in densely populated areas get the priority next to the Frontline workers. Others who have a comfortable living environment can wait.

Let the government privatise the vaccination process, so the affluent class will pay for it, reducing the financial burden to the government.

Some of us are in 80 plus group and still uncertain whether we will get our first Covid Vaccine jab at all ! When we eventually are offered the first jab, may be the Politicians and their catchers might fight to get their second dose and deprive us of even the first dose.Such is the state of affairs in the country.
