The Committee on Public Enterprises ( COPE) is to issue a directive on the continence of Bank of Ceylon Seychelles branch shortly, Parliamentary sources said yesterday.

An MP who is a prominent member of COPE told Daily Mirror that the committee had called for a report on the performance of this branch from the authorities of the Bank. He said the decision on the bank will be made by COPE after its study of the banks’ performance.

However, sources said there was only three customers who had been transacting with the branch in Seychelles.

The branch opened on January 20, 2014, was the first ever Bank of Ceylon branch in an African country. (Yohan Perera)

There are too many white elephants among many wildelephants in the country.

    Wijesinghe Friday, 15 April 2016 08:56 PM

This news is wrong. I work in Seychelles. BOC has become a reputed bank in this country. More than 2000 Sri lankans live here and do top jobs such as charted accounts, planters, entertainment industry, media, hospitality and in the Navy. Even the former CJ was a Sir Lankan if I am not mistaken. Some company's has more than 40 Sri Lankans working for them such as UCPS an engineering company. Some live here for more than 15 years.

There is sufficient evidence to catch the bull by the horns.

    moiez Thursday, 14 April 2016 01:58 PM

3 customers ? What the hell is this shut the bank and transfer all the staffs immediately, I think the bank of Ceylon Maldives branch is doing very well.

    shanyja Saturday, 16 April 2016 03:12 AM

COPE means it is going under the carpet? No CID or top auditors?

    Ravin Thursday, 14 April 2016 02:52 PM

No sane person will not see the crooked financial dealings going on to establish a Bank of Ceylon branch on a well known country that earns its living by being a haven such as the Seyschelles to hide their ill gotten lucre. M.R. and his whole family of crooks should have been long hauled before the Judiciary and asked to answer to the people how they acquired all that wealth. We just cant imagine a country that opens Diplomatic relations of no consequence just to facilitate illegal money laundering by a bunch of crooked politicians and their family. Why don't Ranil and the so called real decent people see the light. These fellows are still running riot like Basil and Gota and the Sons and all sorts of unsavoury charachters.like Sajin . Please Editor publish this response in full . We expect better editorial sense and express the peoples right to freedom of speech.

Really? Just 3 customers?they should investigate who did the feasibility study and also approved the study and opening of the branch Another white elephant to the list

    sss Thursday, 14 April 2016 05:11 PM

No inquiry on the people who took mega fraudulent loans from state banks? Oh I know, It is ILLEGAL to identify them

    Rambo Wednesday, 13 April 2016 12:18 PM

The 3 customers who use that branch must be from Medamulana!!

    Premalal Thursday, 14 April 2016 06:37 PM

I think it cheaper to legalise fraud for politicians and their cronies than to investigate them because the so called investigation is another fraud.

    rasaiah Thursday, 14 April 2016 06:48 PM

It is always bunch of lies. Are we to believe the story. Corruption always hide corruption.

    Bala Wednesday, 13 April 2016 12:54 PM

If there were only three customers, it may be prudent to check all transactions.

Jagath Leanage Thursday, 14 April 2016 08:45 PM

BOC branch in foreign country with only 3 customers? What a joke if the news is correct? How many staff working there?

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 13 April 2016 01:15 PM

When a knife is given to a monkey, it can become very dangerous. Similarly when absolute power is given to individuals, activities such as this can happen. This bank was opened when MaRa was the President of this country and Minister of Finance.

    Shelley. Thursday, 14 April 2016 08:50 PM

How can any one reason out why the big mouthed son of Boralugoda Sinhaya keeps his mouth shut on this crooked transactions.Who has key for the padlock in his mouth via DM Android App

Sri Wickrama Wednesday, 13 April 2016 03:09 PM

Not only that. A through probe should be initiated on suspicious transactions taken place in the branch.

    TONY Thursday, 14 April 2016 11:41 PM

IF THE BANK MADE A PROFIT WITH ONLY 3 CUSTOMERS THEN IT IS WORTH TO CONTINUE, BUT IF THEY ARE DEALING IN ILLEGAL TRANSACTIONS THEN THE FINANCE MINISTER WHO ENCOURAGED TO OPEN THIS BRANCH SHOULD BE TAKE TO TASK

    CitizenPerera Friday, 15 April 2016 01:47 AM

Its not worth crying over spilled milk. Does it take a government over two years to shut these operations and eliminate state enterprises running at a loses? Those in government now should have opposed these bad decisions when they served the opposition and not now.

    Panana Wednesday, 13 April 2016 06:10 PM

"panama papers" also has a branch there. How convenient !

    Reader Friday, 15 April 2016 08:10 AM

COPE must give BOC time frame say 7 days to submit report. Why delay.

Wele Vidane Friday, 15 April 2016 09:11 AM

DM thanks for reminding otherwise we forgot all about golden horse, Lamborghini and Seychelles accounts.

    karsha Friday, 15 April 2016 10:16 AM

is it possible to check fund transfers through this branch?

Nihal Amarasekera Friday, 15 April 2016 11:15 AM

I can't approve more Ravin. I am flabbergasted that these mega robbers still walk free and more so still aspire to come back to power

    Chinthaka Friday, 15 April 2016 12:08 PM

I worked in Seychelles in 2006/07 . There were more than 1,000 Sri Lankan people were worked in Hotel Industry that time. We all wanted to send money to Sri Lanka
