COPE to decide on BOC Seychelles branch

The Committee on Public Enterprises ( COPE) is to issue a directive on the continence of Bank of Ceylon Seychelles branch shortly, Parliamentary sources said yesterday.

An MP who is a prominent member of COPE told Daily Mirror that the committee had called for a report on the performance of this branch from the authorities of the Bank. He said the decision on the bank will be made by COPE after its study of the banks’ performance.

However, sources said there was only three customers who had been transacting with the branch in Seychelles.

The branch opened on January 20, 2014, was the first ever Bank of Ceylon branch in an African country. (Yohan Perera)

This news is wrong. I work in Seychelles. BOC has become a reputed bank in this country. More than 2000 Sri lankans live here and do top jobs such as charted accounts, planters, entertainment industry, media, hospitality and in the Navy. Even the former CJ was a Sir Lankan if I am not mistaken. Some company's has more than 40 Sri Lankans working for them such as UCPS an engineering company. Some live here for more than 15 years.

I worked in Seychelles in 2006/07 . There were more than 1,000 Sri Lankan people were worked in Hotel Industry that time. We all wanted to send money to Sri Lanka

No sane person will not see the crooked financial dealings going on to establish a Bank of Ceylon branch on a well known country that earns its living by being a haven such as the Seyschelles to hide their ill gotten lucre. M.R. and his whole family of crooks should have been long hauled before the Judiciary and asked to answer to the people how they acquired all that wealth.We just cant imagine a country that opens Diplomatic relations of no consequence just to facilitate illegal money laundering by a bunch of crooked politicians and their family.
