The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today issued notice on former State Minister and SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe to appear before CID tomorrow to record a statement over the speech he made on Easter Sunday attacks, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He said six Parlimentarians have lodged complaints with the CID on Sunday to initiate an investigation into the statement made by Abeysinghe.
The spokesman said Mr. Abeysinghe had made the speech about the perpetrators of Easter Sunday attack recently.
In addition he had mentioned about the funding sources that helped to carry out those attacks.
Addressing a public gathering, Abeysinghe said it was President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa had orchestrated the terror attacks. He had also said the funding for their activities, according to Abeysinghe, was provided by Nissanka Senadhipathi.
"The MPs who have complained to the CID said the speech made by MP Abeysinghe is totally baseless and made a request to conduct a full-scale investigation into it," he said.
Accordingly, Mr. Abeysinghe has been told to appear before the CID on Monday.
The notice was issued to the MP since he didn't report to the CID.
DIG Rohana said that Nissanka Senadhipathi had also lodged a complaint with the CID on Monday against Ashok Abeysinghe over his speech and urged them to open an investigation.
MPs Udayana Kirindigoda, Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, Sanjeewa Edirimanne, Madhura Vithana, Jagath Kumara and Milan Jayathilaka have placed their signature on the complaint sheet.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

What CID has to do first is to investigate if Gotabaya was truly the beneficiary who organized the attack, only then they can charge Abeysinghe. Any action against Abeysinghe is a cart before the horse.

Excellent, now that this SJB guy knows who did what then he should provide support to the CID to prove his allegations. Otherwise the affected parties should file criminal defamation case against him and other MPs who stated the same. This is an outrageous allegation.

Response to All Tigers in Lion Skin, Gotabhaya is doing the most difficult job during last decade of his life. He has done great service to this country. Opposition is bankrupt with theories and now reporting to mud slingings.
