Ceylon Electricity Board urges consumers to exercise care in using electricity sparingly a month- long drought prevailing in central hill country had caused rapid decrease in water level of the Maussakele and Castlereagh Reserviours .
Maussakele and the Castlereagh Reservoirs are the main sources of water for the generation of hydro-electricity by the Laxapana, New Laxapana, Canyon,Wimalasurendra and Polpitiya Power Stations feeding the national grid.
The water level recorded at 6.00 am on Sunday(09) in Maussakele and Castle reaigh was 19.5ft and 19 ft below the spill level respectively.
The climatic condition in the area was said to be extremely cold in the mornings and nights while it was extremely hot during day times, it is said.(Gamini Bandara Illanganthilaka )
