C. D. Wickramaratne assumed duties as the 35th Inspector General of Police (IGP) this morning at the Police Headquarters.
Mr. Wickremaratne, who has been the Acting IGP for one and a half years was recommended by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to be appointed as the IGP.
He joined the Sri Lanka Police in 1986 as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and served in the position for 34 years.

We should number the IGPs starting from the independence, otherwise we are legitimising the British Invasion and occupation of Sri Lanka. Most Sri Lankans wouldn’t consider my suggestion seriously unless they have studied and lived in Britain.
