The countrywide bus strike to be launched tomorrow was called off after discussions with Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said a short while ago.
The private bus operators had earlier warned they would launch the strike from tomorrow if the government did not rescind its decision to impose a minimum penalty of Rs.2,500 for traffic offences.
Mr. Wijeratne told Daily Mirror that the finance minister assured them he would decide on this matter after he takes it up at tomorrow’s Cabinet meeting.
He said another meeting has been scheduled with the finance minister tomorrow evening. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

Who the hell is Gemunu to ask the FM to resind the fine for traffic offences, does he travel in his buses to know how these drivers behave on the roads/ loud music and they are also on their phones they done issue tickets they are dirty and even rude let them strike they will have to suffer the loss

What ever said said done, such blatant protests are possible under Yahapalanaya. In the past by now, all would have been searching for Gemunu Wijeratne.in the next world. Also not to forget, all because of Yahapalanaya we have such a unruly wilful band (lead by a shady character ), who are able to incite (and pull strings) to get others to dance to their tunes .
