A huge blast at Beirut port that devastated entire neighbourhoods of the city has killed more than 100 people and injured over 4,000, the Lebanese Red Cross said Wednesday.
“Until now over 4,000 people have been injured and over 100 have lost their lives. Our teams are still conducting search and rescue operations in the surrounding areas,” a statement said.
Meanwhile, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, of Lebanon's General Security Directorate, said the massive blast that shook Beirut's port area on Tuesday was caused by confiscated “high explosive materials.”
It would be "naive to describe such an explosion as due to fireworks," Ibrahim told Lebanese TV.

very intelligent and careless to store high explosive material in the middle of a city. They should have stored it in some remote storage facility outside the city.
