Two suspects including an accomplice of prominent gangster 'Welle Saranga' have been arrested by the Peliyagoda Division Crimes officers in connection with a robbery and an attempted murder.
Police said the two suspects, 29-year old Nalaka Dileep alias 'Army Nalaka' and his 28-year-old wife, were arrested on Tuesday evening. They are residents of Wattala.
Police said Army Nalaka was the main drug (heroin and Ice) distributor for gangster 'Welle Saranga'.
Police recovered 5.2 grammes of heroin from the possession of Army Nalaka when the arrest was made.
He has wanted over two shooting incidents at Ja-Ela and Keselwatta.
In Ja-Ela shooting, a jewellery shop was robbed in November last year.
Meanwhile, in December last year, Nalaka had attempted to murder ‘Welle Saranga’ outside the Hulfsdrop Magistrate Court premises in Keselwatta.
Police said the suspect’s wife was arrested on charges of aiding and abetting him.
The suspects were handed over to the Peliyagoda Police and would be produced in the Hulfsdrop Magistrate's Court.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
