Army Commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva and Defence Secretary Major General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne have been promoted to the rank of General by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Shavendra Silva was appointed as Commander of Sri Lanka Army and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General on August 21, 2019.
Kamal Gunaratne was enlisted to the Army on 31 August 1981 and received commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on 4 December 1982. After retiring from active military service in 2016, he was appointed as Defence Secretary on November 20, 2019.(DSB)
