The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz says Americans across the US are expressing their anger over the death pf George Floyd and are demanding change.

She tweeted saying the killing of George Floyd is disturbing.

"In a democracy, rule of law must always be upheld and security forces must be accountable for their actions," she said.

The Ambassador said that the US Justice Department has announced a full criminal investigation into the circumstances of Floyd’s death.

She also noted that since the end of the US civil war more than 150 years ago, the US has confronted a legacy of racism.

Nonetheless, she said, Americans continue, despite setbacks, to build the "more perfect union" envisioned by the country's founders and to ensure the laws’ full protection applies to all.

the American people demand and deserve independent international investigation. Let’s call on the UN and the UNHRC to investigate the racial discrimination and ethnic cleansing of coloured people in Sri Lanka

    Hamid Thursday, 04 June 2020 02:41 PM

What's. wrong with coloured(do we have such?)people in Srilanka, until 2009 we had experience such as Muslims from Jaffna, singhalese from nothern province,no such in recent past

    Milinda Wednesday, 03 June 2020 10:51 AM

Can we believe in what you say . The so called No 1 neo liberal Democratic nation in this planet earth who never violates it's peoples human rights. Shame on you and your governance. Please note that every action done by you all will have a reaction. This is what you call retribution as per Buddhist Philosophy. It's too late for change. Ethnic violence ànd civil commotions on one side and Covid 19 pandemic on the other side. Natural disasters to follow. God save America? ??

    Sajith Wednesday, 03 June 2020 10:54 AM

Rule of law is missing in the country which is trying to show to the world that they are the pinnacle of democracy. Shame on America and their leadership and law enforcement agencies.

    Vipin B Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:00 AM

You must practice what you preach others.

    Jude Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:02 AM

Dear Ms.Teplitz, when was the LAST time Rule of Law was upheld against American Armed Forces !!?? Huh!! Am NOT worried about cops and sheriff's ACTIONS!!! AMERICAN forces committed atrocities worldover !! Bush and Blair WMD fiasco has accounted for OVER 250,000 deaths as per BEST estimates suggest!! The Robb-Silberman commission(USA) in 2005, in 2008 The Senate Intelligence Committee and The British Chilcot Inquiry all indicates Bush and Blair travesty!!! Americans and Brits Leaders lack Candor and Honesty !!

    Noddy Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:08 AM

Yes, Americans made a mistake by electing the wrong man and needs to be corrected. Sri Lanka has to learn from this and make the correction at the next generation election. We do not want hatred and racism .

    Jude Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:10 AM

HELLO you guys are responsible for 250,000 deaths due to Bush and Blair WMD fiasco!! Then there's 21st century BIGGEST Human Catastrophe AKA Syrian Refugees Crisis!! Again, the total deaths exceeding OVER 400,000 and the CRISIS ongoing!! Huh!!

    Sando Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:12 AM

    Practice what you preach.

Antany Peter Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:12 AM

Can you imagine how the Western media would drum up, if the police killed a civilian in Hong Kong or in any other developing country?

    CITIZEN Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:15 AM

ISNT THIS ALSO A VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Third world Watch. Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:16 AM

People in Sri Lanka have to understand how the West fools the third world and succeeds. “ Admit to the guilt quickly and thus reduce or neutralise any criticism coming from other countries , then give sometime for the world to forget about the incident, and start again preaching the third world about the virtues of human rights and the rule of law “.

Neville Gunasekara Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:18 AM

Do not call an treat this as death. This is willful and brutal murder. Why do not you go to Geneva claiming fundamental human rights ?

    Sokrates Wednesday, 03 June 2020 11:57 AM

As long as this vengeful, self-centered, megalomaniac and racist madman, who lacks intelligence, behavior, and political qualifications, is in office, nothing will change in the United States

    Sinna Wednesday, 03 June 2020 12:01 PM

Your president is insane, call back the former president Obama, who can keep the country together

Premalal Perera Wednesday, 03 June 2020 12:58 PM

It is amazing to see how people jump into the bandwagon of trashing America. However, if America begins issuing residential visas, how many of the same people would be standing in the queue at the Embassy gate. What hypocrisy.

BE FAIR Wednesday, 03 June 2020 01:43 PM

In our country such would be defined by you as "Murder and Violation of Human Rights" But in this case its death in the hands of the Police

    Mohideen Wednesday, 03 June 2020 02:32 PM

Yes the whole world terrorized for years now the boomerang hit back,

    gamini Wednesday, 03 June 2020 05:10 PM

the death was caused by a police man not on the instructions of the government, so you can't blame Trump. To be fair they have arrested the police man, no Weerawansa's to justify the killing. White people are protesting a black man's death, unlike in SL where no one criticized the GOSL for supporting the deaths of minorities. But when people make use of the incident and start looting (like in 1983) shooting has to start

Adam Speak Wednesday, 03 June 2020 08:11 PM

Thanks for speaking out being an US envoy. Donald Trump is a problematic President for Americans and the World at large If he resigns half of the problem is over. I lived in USA for many years one of the best countries in the world to live. Stay out of problems and police. That's it.

    RMA Wednesday, 03 June 2020 09:09 PM

Does she recognize that U.S did not apply the law equally to all war criminals? Does she recognize that U.S allowed war criminals travel to U.S without facing any prosecution if the U.S apply the rule of the law equally?

    raa Wednesday, 03 June 2020 09:11 PM

If U.S cannot eliminate racism in its soil, how it can lea the world or how it can stand up for justice for the victims of war criminals around the world?

    VP Wednesday, 03 June 2020 09:24 PM

    United States of Fascists

Tikiri Banda Wednesday, 03 June 2020 10:06 PM

Really !! Bullshit. Let's see how impartial the legal arm of Uncle Sam would be. I suggest you immediately call for International Judges as you have been championing a campaign against Sri Lanka conniving with a terrorist organisation. Wake up !!! Your Law Enforcing Mechanism is so brutal and they are grossly incapable of handling a minor civil case without committing a daylight murder. Yet you are pointing fingers at countries like Sri Lanka for defeating a ruthless terrorist organisation which even killed two state leaders. Shame on you !!!!

    Sen Thursday, 04 June 2020 07:37 AM

This is not a issue of murdering of one black man under arrest by white cop, this is another uprising against deep seated racial discrimination, for fairness must call for international commission

    Ups Thursday, 04 June 2020 07:39 AM
