Are the temporary residents include tourists? Will registering with police make any difference? Instead of asking temporary residents to register with police, police should go out catch those who are breaking narcotic and liquor laws.

We are sick and tired of all these regulations that are brought up each day. Someone thinks of something they say make it a law and hassle the poor public and after 21 days its all forgotten.

The citizens of this country will never enjoy the freedom. Why must permanent or temporary residents be registered with police in the first place? Under what law is he creating this database? Do a police officer has the authority to create such a database? These types of decisions are usually made by cabinet and scrutinized by parliament.

What a great idea. Only the genuine people will register and not these so called dealers, criminals etc. Waste of time

Fully agree with Raj:Such Laws are made by the legislature ( an elected body_parliament ) implemented by The Police and not the viceversa

There are many big and influential people who are not permanent residents of Colombo living in Colombo. Catch them if you can. I personally am not a permanent resident of Colombo and I will never obey your rule of law. All these are propaganda to aim for the next IGPs position. Former IGP also tried all these nonsense. Nothing produced any results.

Develop a system where everyone regardless of perm or temp citizens of a specific city to update their perm and temp addresses every year on their birthday. This system can be accessed remotley from anywhere in the world. Credentials should be NIC last 6 digits and MMYYYY of birthday and a chosen password. ICTA must sit under MoD. Current cahir of ICTA must go. There's a lot of bullshit going down in our country mostly commited by the so called educated colombo cream which has a major backward impact on our economy and hnidaracne to the development of our nation. These people are selfish and dont want to agree with changes necessary so they can survive on the poor mans rupee.

Another rise to collect some thamasha. When registering the policeman will ask for the local MPs signed paper. The local MP will ask for a little something in his hand....
