The Attorney General (AG) today strongly objected to the five bail applications filed by the five suspects, including a former Police Inspector who were attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), who have been remanded on suspicion to have indulged in drug trafficking.

The five bail applications were taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne today. The petitions have been filed by the five persons, including Lionel Jayaratne, a former Inspector attached to the PNB, who is currently in remand custody under suspicion of smuggling drugs seized by the PNB.

When the matter was taken up before Court, the PNB had also filed an objection against the five bail applications. After taking the facts into consideration, the Colombo High Court Judge had directed AG’s Department to file written objections in Court on February 25. (Yoshitha Perera)
