570 prisoners released for Christmas

Five hundred and seventy inmates in prisons across the country were released today on a presidential pardon as a part of Christmas celebrations, the Prisons Department said.

Accordingly, 570 prisoners who had not committed grave crimes were released today.

“Fifty eight inmates were released from Anuradhapura Prison, 58 from Welikada, 51 from Mahara and 55 from Negombo. Nine female inmates were also among the released,” the department said.
