31 people injured in bus accident

At least thirty-one people including 26 school children were injured when a ‘Sisu Seriya’ school bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a bus transporting garment employees at Thalgodapitiya in Gokarella this morning, police said.

They said the school bus was travelling towards Kurunegala from Melsiripura while the bus transporting garment employees was travelling to Dambulla from Ibbagamuwa.

The two buses had collided when the school bus was trying to overtake another vehicle.

The injured students were admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.

Three garment employees who sustained severe injuries and the two bus drivers were also admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
