3000 evade taxes: Commissioner

Action against 3000 cases of tax evasion had been taken during the first quarter of the year, Commissioner General of Sri Lanka Inland Revenue (SLIR) Mallika Samarasekara said.

“About 118 seizer notices, 20 court cases and about 3,500 other actions such as issuing red notices were taken,” she said.

She said the number of actions taken by the Inland Revenue Department was more than last year.

The Inland Revenue had collected Rs. 100 mn from the taxes so far, she said. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

Please do not talk rubbish! If you know all details of tax evaders, bring them down to records and take action. Also, seriously consider about taking action against those mentioned by MD (all of them are blood suckers).

how much of bribe received by officiers during the period. I have a funny story to tell. My company paid $500,000.00 to an tax officer when I was there and later I left the country, same officer opend the file and took one million rupees from the company. The peions of the tax office take files and replace new sheets. Taxing in Srilanaka is a joke.Tax laws are very basic.90% of the officers are corrupt and should check their assets.

Make tax system where all the citizen are included. Even a poor man can pay Rs 100 as tax. With this money the Gov. can spend on needy. Direct Tax on foreign workers also bring the coffer Full. and look after these families well.
