A total of 1,158 persons have been arrested during a special operation conducted within a 10-hour period in the Western Province yesterday.
Police said 584 persons issued with warrants for their arrest, 441 wanted on corruption charges and 44 involved in crimes, were among those arrested.
The operation carried out on the instructions of the Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.

90% of the road accidents are due to speeding, but the Police does not take adequate action. Only way out is to enforce installation of speed restricting device on all vehicles. Make it compulsory. Does the Transport Minister know that such a thing exists?
