Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s sons Yoshitha and Rohitha are to be removed from the captaincy of the Rugby teams of the Navy and Army respectively, on the instructions of a highly placed official, informed sources said yesterday.

Instructions had been issued to the relevant officials in this regard.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was the captain of the Navy team and his younger brother Rohitha Rajapaksa was the captain of the Army team.

However they have not yet been informed of their  removal.

This is the other problem in the this country... Sports will never grow if politicians poke their fingers. ANd why is a senior ranker advising on a sports team. Shouldnt it be the team coach deciding who the captain is... If they dont deserve been captain it has to be the coach who has to announce and why is medea so worried about about this news.... Kandy captain was changed, was it a news highlight last year.... This year, previous year... CR captain was changed was it a news highlight..... Dear president is this what you call yaha palanaya

    patriot Thursday, 29 January 2015 12:28 PM

They were the most suitable players to captain these two sides. Somebody is going to make political appointments now. It is not good for the game.

While appointing these guys forcibly whether MR followed any regulations?

Horri Jimonis Friday, 30 January 2015 10:45 AM

Correct, there are so many good players did-not get a chance to be in the team because of these Political appointments as Captains.

    Shahab Friday, 30 January 2015 12:57 PM

well done, these guys should not be entertained in these activities..they screwed the whole country.

    Ik Friday, 30 January 2015 01:11 PM

How can he lead the Army when he is not in the Army? This reminds me what Hon.Sujeewa Senasinghe said at a meeting if all three sons get sick the big man will play as the captain. I guess he was right...

    Bua Friday, 30 January 2015 05:44 PM

The en devour of these guys to elevate rugby in Sri Lanka is unforgettable. Thank you very much!

    deepal Saturday, 31 January 2015 09:54 AM

They denied the Rugby fans from watching live telecast which they have been enjoying even before those two mediocre players were born.Ruined our Rugby.Over to you Chandrashan,You too are responsible for this debacle,

    azmy Saturday, 31 January 2015 05:56 PM

    Chris Thursday, 29 January 2015 06:43 AM

Their appointments as well as removals are not proper, no proper procedure has been followed and against the concept of "Good governance".

    hisham Thursday, 29 January 2015 06:50 AM

The former president last issued order was to decommission Yoshitha from Navy so how can he lead the Navy team, I didnt know that the last son was leading the Army unit.

    Phantom Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:09 AM

At last some other good players now have the chance to lead the teams.

    dcn Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:23 AM

These guys behaved as crown princes and they chose any thing they wanted. Finally some relief for Rugby game and enthusiasts,.

sam silva Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:24 AM

Luckily for the country Namal did not play cricket. He would have been the Sri Lanka cricket captain.

    hb Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:40 AM

the rugby loving officials of the two teams would have been wanting them removed from the first day they were appointed, but did not have the power as both these "captains" were appointed by the president of the country and not by selectors.

    Liswom Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:44 AM

Deprofessionalise rugby. Only those who are in the service should be included and not impoetres Fijians, Samoaians, Somalians and Rajpakshas kinsmen who have been decommissioned or not serving the armed forces .

    anuraj Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:47 AM

May be good when looking at the way our guys perform @ NZ

    E Thursday, 29 January 2015 07:57 AM

    Easy come easy go

    kamal Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:06 AM

When the appointments not proper, it is very much obvious the removal will never be proper. The way you do return as the result!

Randy Perera Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:10 AM

When I was holidaying in Sri Lanka I watched agame of Rugby where one of the Rajapakse boys was playing and to my disbelief no one was tackling him. He went on to score a few tries. This is not Rubgy. I

    perera Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:52 AM

paw appa, honda players la dennek ratata jathiyata nathi vuna.

Stunned Citizen Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:52 AM

They were firstly appointed not on merit but by pressure. Most rugby loving citizens would welcome this news considering the fact that Sri Lanka Rugby will return to its pinnacle. Their sole objective was dismantle the hard work done by the very stalwarts of this game and implement their dynasty.

    adas Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:54 AM

    Deprofessionalise?

Kiris Baba Amaray Thursday, 29 January 2015 08:58 AM

Captains should be selected on merits and not on Political based.

Bubble Banda Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:00 AM

Fine, not only sports - trace everywhere whether former Presidents family members been posted for higher positions - remove them instantly.

    asoka Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:19 AM

The younger son was appointed captain of the Army team in his first season !!

    sk Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:27 AM

    very correctly said

    rohith Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:46 AM

And our peasants still belive that only MR CAN WIN wars, his family has the best war winners, best economic brains, best rugby players, best of everything. ..hah!!!thank goodness you are no more

    Pravin Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:49 AM

yoshitha and rohitha could have both made private rugby teams when their father was in power and even now. They wanted to promote rugby And the three forces. They captained the St Thomas team as well. It would be a blow to the sport if they left it.

    Ranja Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:54 AM

Take action to remove all from illegal posts.

    SR Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:54 AM

Anyone can say anything but Navy and Army rugby teams hugely benefited by these boys being in them. There appointments as captains might be questionable but Navy would have never won the league or would have come even close to beating the rest of the teams if not for all the players that were imported from other clubs.

    Lenny Thursday, 29 January 2015 09:59 AM

Not only played, he would have captained, been the wicket keeper, opened bowling, batting , coached, managed and been the chief selector as well

    K. C. John Thursday, 29 January 2015 10:19 AM

Chris,It is amazing that "Good governance" is being sought. Where were the likes of you when virtually all norms of governance were being violated by the Rajapakse regime?
