Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando was arrested after he surrendered to the Police today in connection with the alleged attack on a group of opposition supporters in Hambantota, Police Said.

Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said Mr. Fernando was produced before the Hambanthota Magistrate and was remanded till December 24.

Several UNP local government members, including Opposition Leader of the Hambantota Municipal Council Auyb Khan were attacked by a gang at a protest campaign held at the Hambantota bus halt yesterday morning.
