Rajapaksa lies about me-Solheim

Former Norwegian Special Peace Envoy Erick Solheim today rejected President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s claims that he was covertly financing the Tamil Tigers.

Solheim in a Twitter message said, “President Rajapaksa tells lies about me as election approaches. I will set the truth straight tomorrow (Monday)”.

He was responding to claims by President Rajapaksa, who accused him (Solheim) for covertly funding the Tamil Tigers.

Addressing a political gathering in Kurunegala, President Rajapaksa said, “they (Norway) gave money to the LTTE. The Norwegian government must investigate. We have evidence on how they funded the terrorists."

He specifically blamed former Norwegian minister and peace facilitator Erik Solheim for backing the LTTE.

"Solheim is now planning to give evidence against us in Geneva," Rajapaksa said referring to the ongoing UN Human Rights Council's investigation on war crimes committed by both the LTTE and government forces during the final phase of the civil war that ended in 2009.

MR was silent all this time. He comes out with these stories only when an election is due. If he has served the people during his two year term faithfully, I do not think he need to dig the past such as these matters.

How often does Rajapakse talks truth ?!

Sylvia Haik Monday, 17 November 2014 06:12 PM

Nobidy is the least bit surprised that Rajapakse lies. I am surprised it took Solheim this long to realise.

    Freddy Sunday, 16 November 2014 08:33 PM

The truth hurts I wonder why Solheim did not offer to help the Tamil refugees to Norway or Tamil Nadu the Tamil homeland. Instead Australia and Canada etc by U N . Why no one talks of bringing back the ltte killers for war crimes, seizing their assets etc. where is the Justice to the innocent Sinhalese/Tamil/Malays/Others killed. Well it seems that these Tamil Terrorist are well shielded so that International conspiracy can organize regime change. Use Interpol, FBI, etc for proper investigations not incompetent UN or imminent knowsall. Fabrication, lies and manipulation seems to be the order of the day. Why allow terrorism to breath?

Liberal One Sunday, 16 November 2014 10:40 PM

Time for government to expose all these peace merchants. More we stay back the more courage they get.

    george Monday, 17 November 2014 01:31 AM

Or was it the other way? Did LTTE bank rolled Solheim? Norway never saw GOSL in a favoured way regardless of the colour of Government at the time. It was their intention to portray LTTE as a unique fighting machine that was unbeatable. Come on!! Norway/Solheim come out clean. You would not have got involved if there was no potential gains for Norway or was is it due to an inherent hatred towards the other races in SL?

    Nims Monday, 17 November 2014 01:47 AM

Erick Solheim, you are a liar. You are an enemy of Sinhala Buddhists. You and your Western supporters are trying hard to make Sri Lanka too another South Korea

    Gamarala Monday, 17 November 2014 04:47 AM

When will this well known LTTE supporter give up his accusations against the duly elected GOSL? This man is a disgrace to the country of Norway to have aided and abetted a terrorist organization to wage war. His statements have no credence or any value. He never seems to give up, does he? No doubt egged on

    ananda Monday, 17 November 2014 06:50 AM

Mr Solheim must expose who funded LTTE Internationally

Punny Pellow Monday, 17 November 2014 06:51 AM

Well, HE is like that you know? HE will apologise later !!

Kiri Gamarala Monday, 17 November 2014 07:52 AM

Being white skinned does not mean that a person is always honest and truthful.

    Manu Monday, 17 November 2014 08:39 AM

Forget about President Rajapakse. People in this country know how you funded LTTE. Sri Lankans curse will be upon you always. We dont want to hear anything about you. One day you will pay for what you did. Innocent civilians were killed because people like you funded LTTE.I challenge you to post this comment Daily Mirror.....
