The Colombo District Court today fixed January 20 for Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake to file preliminary objections in a defamation suit filed against him by Southern Provincial Council Minister D.V. Upul claiming Rs.500 million as damages.
In his plaint, Mr. Upul accused Mr. Ramanayake of defamed him at a media briefing held on February 16, 2016 by claiming that Mr. Upul had fraudulently withdrawn Rs.76 million from the Lankaputhra Bank.
The plaintiff claims the remarks had tarnished his reputation. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
