Officials of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation have taken immediate steps to prevent further pollution of Hatton Oya-a tributary of the Mahaweli Ganga-with the leaking fuel from the browser that toppled at Koragala CPC Storage Complex.
When the bowser carrying 33,000 liters of diesel from Muthurajawela to Kotagala had toppled at the Malliappuwa on the Hatton – Colombo Main Road last afternoon, a large stock of diesel flowed down the drains into the Hatton Oya.
However, the officials took immediate steps the pump the fuel of the ill fated bowser into other bowsers.
The driver had said that he had lost control of the vehicle due to a technical defect. (Ranjith Rajapakse)
