A considerable number of animal deaths have been reported from many parts of the country, especially from the Puttalam and Kurunegala Districts, as a result of the prevailing drought condition.

It was reported that animals like monkeys, birds, deer, oxen and turtles were seen dead inside the Thabbowa Sanctuary.

Relevant authorities said if the situation worsened, animals would die from starvation. They therefore advised people to set-up water holes in places where animals frequented.

Why do we need authorities if their job is suggesting what general public can do to save these animals people by set-up water holes... they should be doing this rather than telling the public to do. they should understand if the animals are dieing from starvation the plight of the people residing there is the same as well. its an absurd request these authorities have asked rather they should find ways to mitigate this issue.
