I happened to meet Corporal Dayananda of the 5th Field Eng Regiment at a Vedagedera where he is taking treatment after sustaining injury in Pudukudirippu10th May, 2012 whilst demining. He has nothing below his left wrist, only 3 fingers on right wrist, both eyes injured after blast with no sight at all and is with partial hearing. He has to be assisted by his wife. On seeing this pathetic condition of a war hero I have contacted his regimental head for some assistance. He only recvs his monthly pay but no compensation. He sits down very meekly by a chair and is constantly guided. He does not show any ferocity of an army combatant but of an innocent man suffering in silence.

So where are all those motorised mine clearing devices gifted by many countries that we saw on TV? They were also parked on show outside the MOD in Colombo. Why is this being done manually wasting immense time with danger when huge tracts can be completed within hours using the motorised Mine Clearing Vehicles?

Salute you people.. I think the policy makers are thinking that you Tamil people need to clear the mines because of your land? God only can save you people.
