The Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama said it had received four bodies following the tense situation at the Mahara Prison and 25 have been admitted to the hospital.
Hospital Director Shelton Perera said he couldn’t not say if all were inmates and added majority of them were with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle said that steps had been taken to control the unrest created by the detainees at the Mahara Prison.
She also said that one group had reportedly set a fire inside the prison.
A committee has also been appointed to look into the incident. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
