Over 4,000 COVID patients at home

More than 4,000 COVID-19 infected patients are still in their homes due to the shortage of beds at treatment centres or hospitals across the country.

According to the National Operation Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), currently a total of 17,795 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country.

However, only 13,043 COIVD-19 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals, government managed or paid Intermediate Care Centres (ICC).

Accordingly, 4,752 COVID-19 patients are yet to be moved to hospitals or treatment centres.

The NOCPCO said that a total of 4,906 patients are undergoing treatment at 43 hospitals while 6,051 patients are undergoing treatment in 19 government Intermediate Care Centres and another 2,086 patients are at 13 paid ICCs.

Meanwhile, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva earlier said that they had assembled over 2,500 beds and are aiming to provide another 5000 beds within the next three or four days to treat the Covid patients.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,895 cases were reported on Thursday. Among them, 326 cases were identified in the Colombo District while 309 in Kalutara District and 279 patients were in the Gampaha District.

By this morning, 119,423 persons were confirmed positive to COVID-19 in the country and 100,885 of them had recovered and left hospitals and care centers.

I would suggest. 1 .let infected patients be quarantined in their own residences. 2. Use schools as quarantine centres which could be easily converted. All cetral colleges are equipped with basic sanitary facilities. It is few beds or mattress required. By doing this the government can save their extra costs such as the transportation from Colombo to jafna etc.etc.even patients would find comfortable (mentally and physically).

Majority of Covid infected persons have no illnesses and in many other countries these people are not considered as patients, and hence not admitted to hospitals. In Sri Lanka every infected person is named as a 'patient' and admitted hospitals and by doing so unnecessarily filling the hospital beds by these healthy people. That is the problem need to be corrected at least now.
