A high-level delegation of medical experts, had a discussion with Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva to explore the possibilities for accommodating COVID-19 patients for treatment at private sector hospitals.

The delegation included Consultant Surgeon Dr Maiya Gunasekera, Consultant Physician (Prof) Arjuna De Silva, Gynaecologist (Prof) Hemantha Dodampahala, Endocrinologist (Prof) Prasad Katulanda and the Consultant Physician, Dr Eranga Narangoda.

The discussion was held today at the Army Headquarters.

Those medical specialists maintained that such opportunities should remain open for the virus-infected patients wishing to receive treatment at private sector hospitals since this could also help ease prevailing congestion at government hospitals.

Meanwhile, the Army Commander assured them that their concerns would be taken up at the NOCPCO Task Force, Director General of Health Services and other authorities before a decision is made in this regard.

What is there to ask anyone else? What is wrong in granting such permission? There are many people will never agree to go into a government facility knowing how government officials treat and talk to people. Those who can afford it should have to freedom to seek medical treatment privately as it is their fundamental right. Oh! I forgot. There is no such thing with the army.

Sri Lanka can bash Europe for not being able to control Covid 19, but at least the healthcare here is available and of the same quality for rich and poor. Not one doctor, nurse etc. benefits from peoples misery.

You are right. And the quality is as good as private hospitals, putting people first, no matter how much money you have.

It is unbelievable , all these months since the start of the pandemic these so called “medical specialists “ were keeping a low profile because they were scientifically clueless in treating the Covid patients. Now the great Scientists have found the vaccines, these doctors are coming out “To Make Money By Administrating These Vaccines in Private Hospitals and Also to claim back their lost reputations as experts “. I hope the Army Commander totally reject their appeal.

What about the local medicine invented and cured the covid 19 within 3 days. Why can't we exploit that and cure everyone. Or are we under big pharma influence not to try those medicine. At least let those who like to take such medicine to try and cure the disease. I heard that the person invented this medicine is facing backlash from many as he wants togive away it free.
