Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake has said that the country has so far not had a President hailing from up country though his father came close to becoming one.
However, Minister Dissanayake told a ceremony at the Niyamgamdora temple in Kotmale that he would try his best to realise his father’s dream.
“ It is in the upcountry, where the UNP has a big vote base. But low country presidents came to power with the upcountry votes. Some Presidents never looked at the upcountry. My father could have become the president. But it will take about 10 years for me to fulfil that dream.” (Ranjan Kasthuri)

When Junior Bush was contesting presidency in USA he had never said that he is going to implement Senior Bush ‘s program. Our politics is such cheap Sajith says the same thing as Navin.

Dont be another Premadasa Jr. by bragging about father please. Upcountry people given you the opportunity to serve them as Naveen not as Gamini.

This being a democratic country, where everybody has equal rights, it does not matter whether the President is from the up-country or low-country or what is ethnic or religious background is. However, I am quite appreciative of your vision and sincerely wish that your dreams will come true, sooner than later.
