The investigation into the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, which allowed to hold a birthday celebration for event organizer Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali when island wide restrictions were in place, have been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).
Earlier, the Fort Police arrested several persons including Chandimal Jayasinghe and Piumi Hansamali for holding the birthday party violating quarantine regulations.
Following the incident, the Fort Police also launched an investigation against the management of the hotel for allowing it to host the birthday party.
Accordingly, the Fort Police had recorded several statements from the management of the hotel.
However, the Police Headquarters had taken steps to hand the investigation to the CCD.
Fifteen people who had participated in the party in violation of quarantine rules have been released on bail after being produced in court.
However, they were later placed under quarantine at a Quarantine Center in Passara.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
