Five more individuals including actor Rayan Van Rooyan, who were arrested along with drug kingpin Makandure Madush, were deported from Dubai last night, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said the suspects arrived in the country at around 5.25 a.m today on the UL 226 flight. They were detained by the CID at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for questioning, SP Gunasekera said.
The five individuals deported from Dubai were identified as Rayan Van Rooyan (41) a resident of Dehiwala, Mohammad Washimdeen Mohammad Kuthubdeen (22) a resident of Kolonnawa, P. Dimuthu Surantha Perera (25) resident of Seeduwa, W. Suraj Kavinda de Silva (28) from Alubomulla and K.A. Charith Padman (40) a resident of Kamburupitiya.
Meanwhile, the seven-member committee headed by Senior DIG of CID Ravi Seneviratne, appointed by IGP Pujith Jayasundara to monitor investigations into the individuals who had been deported from Dubai to Sri Lanka, had met yesterday evening.
Thirty-one suspects including Makandure Madush, singer Amal Perera and his son Nadeemal were arrested at a luxury hotel in Dubai on February 4.
As of today, a total of 13 individuals who have been deported from Dubai have arrived in the country over four separate occasions. Three of them were released and the others were either remanded or detained for questioning.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
