Chinese man speaks out

E-mail Print
The Chinese national who was arrested for allegedly stealing and swallowing a diamond at the international gem and jewellery exhibition at the BMICH has told the police that he had only swallowed an imitation diamond.

According to police sources, the suspect has not revealed the reason for his swallowing the diamond. The suspect was admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo in order that the diamond could be collected. The X-ray image had indicated that the man had swallowed an object similar to a diamond. Police said that would have to wait until the object was removed to determine whether or not it was a genuine diamond.

When the suspect was arrested, eight imitation diamonds and 101 Chinese currency notes were in his possession and also taken into custody by the police.(Srinath Prasanna Jayasuriya)

The REAL diamond goes missing after 3 days of the incident. about 4 hours is more than enough for the authorities to give him laxatives and get the DIAMOND out.. Wonder if it was replaced already.. for a price....

They must have brought the imitation to replace the genuine one. The plan went somewhat wrong as the other guy could not bear the temptation and they both were not sysnced properly to do the replacement

As soon as news was published in the DM, there was a comment saying that he swallowed the imitation. That means some already knew it was imitation.

All Sri Lankans are not saints - politicians included. Needless to mention how many Sri Lankans are languishing in foreign jails for thievery and other crimes. Does that mean all Sri Lankans are thieves? Let's not try to demonize an entire ethnic group because of an actions committed by an individual from that country. .

Looking back at our own capabilities, most probably a fake will come out from his stomach. Or even someone could announce that it had been made fake because of his gastric juices in the stomach. haha

He brought fake diamonds with him with intention to rob the real ones and may have left a fake one in place before taking and swallowing the real one. Typical Chinese magic which we seem to be mesmerized with.

I wonder if this is an insurance scam or some plot to earn double the price.. My theory is that, involving a chinese man will only make sure everyone's attention is on him while something major is happening elsewhere! hmmmm the plot thickens..
