Delay

E-mail Print
The opening of the southern expressway for motor traffic had been delayed due to incomplete work on signalling and access points, Deputy Minister of Road Development Nirmala Kotalawala said.

Earlier, the government had planned to open the stretch of the expressway between Galle and Colombo for motor traffic in September. However, the Minister said that some minor work had to be completed along the road, and therefore, the opening will be delayed. “Anyway, we will open the expressway before the end of this year,” he said.

With the opening of the road, the government is planning to reduce the travel time from Colombo to Galle to one and half hours.  Normally, it takes around three hours for a vehicle to reach Colombo from Galle.

Motorists will be charged a toll for using the expressway once it is opened. (Kelum Bandara)

This shows how poor planners we are. howmany engineers, policy planners who are well thorough on these, are working in this country but nobody thought how good if they can reduce the traffic along the Galle road due to railwayline closed for six months by opening this

Does our motorist know how to change lanes when driving @ 100km/h ? . I'm sure we will see major accidents until our drivers learn how to drive in highways.

Positively taking this, so what do you suggest? Do you have any idea of the strategies that other countries has followed in introduction of highways? Please elaborate.
