Kingswood College got their Dialog Inter-Schools League Rugby Tournament campaign off to a fine start as they brought down St. Joseph’s College 24-17 in their encounter played at Havelock Park yesterday.
Kingswood collected their points through four tries and two conversions while the Josephians scored three tries, of which one was converted.
Kingswood drew first blood as Apoorva Wijesinghe went over with a converted try in the 12th minute of the game.
However, Naveen Marasinghe and Captain Rashen Gunawardana scored a try apiece as St. Joseph’s went ahead 10-7.
But a converted try on the cusp of half time courtesy Chethiya Bandara put Kingswood back in front. Kingswood had a dominant 35 minutes following the break as Iranga Sandaruwan crossed the line on two occasions.
Cheka Jayawardena scored the third try for St. Joseph’s in the dying moments of the game but it proved too late as Kingswood walked away with a 24-17 victory.
