The Minister of Sports Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday revealed that three National cricketers are currently under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Minister made these observations while speaking during an occasion where he met representatives of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) for the development of junior cricket in the country.

“We need to protect the integrity of the sport. At present various allegations are being made. Three National cricketers are being investigated by the ICC regarding match-fixing.”

Minister Alahapperuma also spoke on the recent suspension of fast bowler Shehan Madushanka for the alleged possession of illegal drugs.

“He (Madushanka) was a player we had high expectations for. His speed was consistently between 140 to 145kmph. Those expectations have all been dashed now,” he said.

The Minister also requested the school coaches in attendance to educate youngsters on maintaining the integrity of the game.

“Cricket Big Matches nowadays tend to end up in brawls and with the involvement of the police. We need to protect the credibility of the game. I am making a special request to you all, to preserve the sanctity and good name of the sport,” he expressed.
