Chathurya and Thehan end on winning note

Top seed and reigning national doubles champion pair Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne ended the 105th Colombo Tennis Championship on a winning note when they clinched the boys’ Under 18 doubles title at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday (21).

The champion pair who underwent a defeat to Vibuda Wijebandara and Savit Weerasinghe in the men’s open doubles event struck back to brush aside the challenge of Kavisha Ratnayake and Luca Knese in the final by two sets to nil.

In the process Nilaweera lost the boys’ Under 18 singles event played on Saturday.

  • Boys' Under 18 doubles – Chathurya Nilaweera/Thehan Wijemanne beat Kavisha Ratnayake/Luca Knese 7-5, 6-2,
  • Singles Men’s Over 35 – Denis Chambi beat Suneth Fernando 7-6, 7-5
