Army emerge Baseball League Champs

Sri Lanka Army won at the Baseball National League Championships held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex, Baseball Courts.

The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Baseball Association. Leading eight teams participated. They are: SL Army, SL Navy, SL Air Force, Old Anandians SC, Old Royalists SC, Ranabima Royal SC Kandy, Colombo University and Kelaniya University.

The final match was between Army and Navy where Army triumphed 7-5. In the first semi-final Army beat Old Royalists 17-1. In the second semi-final Navy beat Ranabima Royal 10-0 to qualify for the final.

In the final Gayan Tharindu of Sri Lanka Army bagged two awards. They were Man of the Match and Most Valuable Player. Sugath De Silva (Army) was the Best Pitcher Niroshan Sriyaratne (Army) was selected as the Best Batter and Thushara Wickremasinghe (Navy) bagged the Best Fielder’s Award.

The Chief Guest was Akira Sugiyama, Japanese Ambassador of Sri Lanka.
