Army BC regains Men’s National Boxing Title

Army BC and MAS Unichela BC emerged Men’s and Women’s champions respectively at the 94th National Boxing Championship which concluded at the Royal MAS Arena Boxing Ring.

Army BC regained the title after a lapse of two years having last won in 2017 while MAS Unichela BC clinched the Women’s title for the fourth successive year.

Army BC bagged five Gold Medals, one Silver Medal and three Bronze Medals while second placed MAS Slimline BC the defending champions ended with three Gold Medals, five Silver Medals and one Bronze Medal.

Navy BC followed in third place with one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal and five Bronze Medals.

In the Women’s category, defending champions MAS Unichela BC were way ahead bagging five Gold Medals while Air Force BC were second with two Gold Medals and Police BC third with one Gold and three Silver Medals.

The champion Army BC also had the honour of being adjudged the Most Outstanding Club for 2019 which earned them the Muttiah Xavier Memorial Challenge Cup.

In addition, W. A. R. Sandakelum of Army BC was adjudged the Most Outstanding Boxer of 2019 with K. A. D. Dharmatileke from the champion MAS Unichela BC was adjudged Most Outstanding Boxer in the Women’s category.

Meanwhile Police BC’s P. A. R. Prasanna was adjudged Best Boxer of the Nationals in the Men’s category and P. G. E. Madushan of Air Force BC took the Best Loser Award.

In the Women’s category R. A. Nadeeka Pushpakumari of Vidyaratana BC bagged the Best Boxers Award for the second successive year with R. K. A. A. Ranasinghe of MAS Unichela BC taking the Best Loser Award.

Syed Abdul Kadir a former National champion of Singapore was the Chief Guest.
