Renown holds Saunders to a draw

Saunders SC and Renown SC figured in a thrilling 1-1 draw in their Dialog Champions League Football Tournament Stage One match played at the Sugathadasa Stadium under lights on Sunday (3).

Saunders SC took an early lead with Kasun Jayasuriya scoring in the third minute of play as they went into half time 1-0.

However, Renown SC came back into the game with a last minute goal from M. C. M. Rifnas as they levelled the scores 1-1. 

Meanwhile, Colombo FC defeated Moragasmulla SC 2-0 in another fixture played at the same venue. 

O. I. Abumere and M. Fazal scored a goal each for the winners after having led 1-0 at half time.     

Sri Lanka Army SC trounced Negombo Youth SC 8-1 in another fixture played at the Kelaniya Football Complex after having led 7-0 at half time.  

Sajith Kumara scored five goals including a hat-trick for the winners in the first half while M. N. M. Issadeen, Kasun Pradeep and Eranga Priyashantha netted a goal each.    

Bright Acotey scored the solitary goal for Negombo Youth SC.  

In other matches, Solid SC beat New Youngs SC Wennappuwa 2-1 at Anuradhapura while Crystal Palace beat Java Lane 1-0 at City League Grounds.      

Meanwhile, the replay match between Blue Star SC and Super Sun SC Beruwela will be played at the City Football League Grounds on September 6. 

This match which was earlier played at Kalutara was suspended mid way in the second half due to a crowd invasion with Blue Star SC leading 3-1.
