Sri Lankan cricketers donate to Homagama hospital

National Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne hands over the grant to Dr. Janitha Hettiarachchi, Medical Superintendent of the Homagama Base Hospital

The Sri Lankan national cricket team, on Sunday, made a donation to the Base Hospital, Homagama to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for its health staff.
A cheque for an “undisclosed” amount was presented to the Hospital authorities by Sri Lanka’s Test and ODI captain Dimuth Karunaratne. 
“This is another donation to the hospital,” the captain said. “It was handed over to Dr. Janith Hettiarachchi.”


A letter of appreciation signed by the Medical Superintendent Dr. Hettiarachchi was handed to the captain. 
“During this critical situation in the country with the pandemic of Covid-19 your donation of, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits for health staff, is highly appreciated,” the letter says. 
“I am grateful for your contribution and wish you success in all future projects as well,” the letter further added. 


Earlier, the team also contributed to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. 


The National Hospital of Sri Lanka (Colombo 10) had thanked the Sri Lankan national team who contributed to enable the hospital to procure a machine for the treatment of the coronavirus affecting people in the country. 


A letter signed by Dr. Dilshan Priyankara and Dr. Manoj Edirisooriya (both Consultant Intensivists) was sent to Karunaratne. 


“The Intensive care unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) is extremely thankful for the donation of a video laryngoscope which is of significant importance for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, which in turn greatly assist specially during intubation,” the letter said. 


“We are extremely thankful to the Sri lankian national cricket team under the leadership of Mr. Dimuth Karunratne for extending their immediate support to assist in procurement of this unit,” the letter also read.
