N’ Eliya Golf Club ready for tee off after COVID-19

After a break of nearly three months, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) has opened its doors to all their members for activities once again, President of NEGC Major General Srinath Rajapaksa told the Daily Mirror yesterday.

“We have done some significant changes in the past with the addition of two plots of land to complete a stunning 18-hole course. We are looking forward to the Burdett Trophy which is an annual encounter played between NEGC and the Royal Colombo Golf Club.”

“The 130th membership drive took place this year with almost 200 new members joining in and boosting its membership by 10 percent. A Challenge Trophy for the Nuwara Eliya District Inter-Schools Golf Tournament was also inaugurated with nine schools taking part in the first edition,” Rajapaksa stressed.

Meanwhile, NEGC Club Captain, Priyanga Hapugalle said that their first priority is about the health and safety of the club members and their staff. 

“We conducted the regular safety measures of sanitising the Club House and the equipment regularly. As the curfew eased off in the area, our committed green staff cleaned up the course and its surroundings,” he revealed. 

“A lot is stored for the future at the club with some development work taking place despite adverse weather patterns and untimely setbacks. However, we have marched forward and the club is in good hands at the moment with an enterprising and hardworking committee,” Hapugalle added.
