Eyeing a governorship!

There is a security high-up now in retirement who claims that he is very popular among the people in the North.

By the way, this high-up while serving a stint in Vavuniya had made it a point to be in close touch with the people and thereby managed to win a measure of their goodwill. But he is overestimating his standing with them, they say.

In the run-up to the recent big poll, this high-up would attend the campaign meetings with his neck covered with garlands and brag that he could draw crowds in thousands. However, the poll results in the North gave the lie to his boasts, they say.

The man is said to be busy these days collecting signatures from the people in Vanni for a petition that appeals to those in high echelons that he be appointed the governing one for
the North.

He is reportedly planning to hand the petition to Number One and a copy of it to Number Two. However, indications are that a new governing one will have been appointed by the time he could hand the petition to Number One and Number Two, they say.
