There is an opposition Diyawanna member hailing from a remote uncongenial area in the country.

A newspaper report once said this member, a typical beetle-chewing peasant, made it to Colombo all the way from Ampara by foot in the difficult days of his life. .

The Diyawanna colleagues the other day were surprised to find that this member had taken a hair cut sporting an odd style. Even the Diyawanna council white-collar ones appeared amused at the member’s hair style.

Meanwhile, a good buddy of this peasant-turned Diyawanna member, asked the latter in a confidential tone why he had switched to an odd hair style.

“Ah! My hair style? That’s a mistake, Machang!” he replied.

“Your barber blundered?”

“No! Machang!” he replied.

“if so, what happened?

“I’ll tell you the story, Machang!  I never go to the barber saloon. In your case, you get the barber, or his wife to do the haircut. In my case, it is my wife who cuts my hair. She usually does a good job of it! But the last time she had apparently gone wrong in her measurements and messed it up!” he posed for a moment and added: “After all, Machang, what is important is the head, not the hair on it. Isn’t it so?”

The friend nodded his agreement.
