Parliamentarian Ven, Athureliye Rathana Thera who is in the limelight after his much-talked-about fast last week created another tense situation yesterday by visiting the controversial Batticaloa university which is called by some people Sharia University in Punani, Batticaloa.
He was not allowed to enter the controversial premises by the Army but later allowed to do so after he gave an undertaking to the Valaichchenai ASP G.S.Jayasundera not to launch a fast or place any Buddha statue inside the premises.
However, a tense situation prevailed at the entrance of the venue as there was a delay in allowing the monk and his associates to enter into the premises even after he gave that pledge.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the place the Thera said that this institution should be taken over by the government and be used as a training institute for the armed forces.
