United National Party (UNP) will have nowhere to turn if it continues to work in the next one and half years as they worked during the last three and half years, UNP MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said.

He was responding to questions raised by journalists following a meeting at the Kelaniya Divisional Secretariat on Tuesday (09).   “We admit the fact that there are shortcomings in the UNP. However, we should rectify those mistakes soon,” MP Fonseka said.

“People know what the UNP delivered and what it did not and they will decide on the fate of the party, depending on the benefits they received during the UNP administration,”
he added.

When asked about the UNP presidential candidate, Field Marshal Fonseka said he had no idea as to who would become the UNP candidate and added he was not interested in it.
“I am of the opinion that the UNP should field a candidate who loves the country,” he said.

“I will get onto the stage only when a candidate who has potential to build the country is chosen for the presidential candidacy,” he added.
