The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) demanded the Education Ministry Secretary to take actions to dismiss Tamil teacher who was promoted to the post of Deputy Director to oversee Tamil Medium schools with immediate effect. Its General Secretary Joseph Stalin said the former Principal of Ramanathan Hindu Ladies’ College, K Nagularaj had allegedly involved in many corruptions and irregularities such as obtaining bribes when admitting children to the College.   Several investigations were launched while she was the Principal by the Public Service Commission and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption. The Public Service Commission has filed a charge sheet against her.

However, the former Principal had been appointed to a post of Deputy Director connected to Tamil Medium schools despite the charge sheet is being filed against her.
It is a critical situation and the CTU strongly objects this appointment, Mr Starlin said. “She used to monitor Principals and Teachers while she is in the position and the conducting of such duties by someone who has been accused of corruption is quite ironic. Witnesses including teachers who are expected to provide evidence in investigations against her might have an impact from this,” he said. Therefore, CTU requests to take immediate decision to dismiss this particular officer from the post of Deputy Director.
