The prevailing row between the Government Medical Officers Association and the government has been delayed the recruitment of 350 doctors.

It is the normal practice to call for the GMOA’s proposals before the post internship recruitment are made to the medical service as these recommendations are considered in giving priority in the recruitment procedure.

Doctors eligible for recruitment have completed their internship period by July 9th,  2018. However even after lapse of one year they have not been recruited as the GMOA has not yet sent their proposals with regard to the recruitment process. Meanwhile, another batch of new intern doctors have completed their internship six months ago. The first group has spent one year and the other group six months without being appointed as qualified doctors.

Meanwhile Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasingha has sent a letter to the GMOA stating that they will be compelled to make recruitment of doctors without considering the doctors recommendation if they continue to delay making the recommendation. The Director (Medical Service) of the Health Ministry Dr. Priyantha Athapatthu also has sent a letter to the GMOA on the same matter.
