Prevention of CKD President vests several projects with public via satellite

President Maithripala Sirisena vested several projects, which were implemented with the aim of preventing the chronic kidney disease and the welfare of the kidney patients, with the public yesterday (29).   


The President, using the remote satellite technology from the Presidential Secretariat, declared open these projects.   


First, President Sirisena using the remote satellite technology opened the Economic, Welfare and Educational Information Centre built to empower kidney patients in the Girandurukotte District Hospital, at a cost of Rs.89 million.   


President Sirisena also vested 09 water purification systems established in the Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Kurunegala and Kandy districts, which were installed with the financial assistance of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease and various philanthropists and the labour assistance provided by the Sri Lanka Navy, with the public.   
Water purification systems established at Welusumana Raja Maha Viharaya, Mihintale, Ruwanpura Maha Vidyalaya, Padaviya, Kiridiwaththa Primary School in Palagala, St. Anthony Maha Vidyalaya in Tirippane, Kiulakele Maha Vidyalaya in Mahakubukkadawala, Karabewa Purana Raja Maha Viharaya in Anamaduwa, land belonging to the Housing Development Authority in Viharagama, Anamaduwa, as well as the Maliyadeva Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya in Kurunegala and Dharmaraja Vidyalaya in Kandy, were also launched by the President.   
Special attention has been given to the prevention of the spread of kidney disease which was rampant throughout several districts and many projects were implemented over the past five years following the establishment of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.    At present over 611 water purification systems have been established across the country at an expense of Rs.824 million and the beneficiaries of these projects have exceeded 1,527,500.
