The Sri Lankan Cricket team’s visit to Pakistan and the first ever international test series being held in Pakistan since 2009 would revive international cricket in the country, Pakistani President Dr. Arif Alvi has said.

According to Radio Pakistan, the President has expressed these views when High Commissioner-designate of Pakistan to Sri Lanka retired Major General Muhammad Saad Khattak called on him in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The President said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its fraternal relations with Sri Lanka, based on trust and mutual understanding.  He also highlighted that Pakistan is home to rich Buddhist civilization and heritage. Pakistan celebrates the Vesak Festival every year, in which monks and academicians from Sri Lanka participate.

He also directed the High Commissioner-designate to work for promotion of tourism. He appreciated SriLankan Airlines for operating on Karachi-Colombo and Lahore-Colombo sectors.
