Includes interdicted Sub-Inspector Five persons, engaged in robbery impersonating police officers arrested

Five individuals including an interdicted Sub Inspector who had committed several robberies while masquerading as police officers, were taken into custody in
Peliyagoda yesterday.   


 This organised gang had come in three wheelers, threatened people and looted gold jewellery and other valuable items, said the Kelaniya Division Crime Detective Bureau (DCDB) OIC IP Linton de Silva.   


Police found a pistol, a grenade, 2g of heroin, 20 pounds of gold, a tablet computer, and 7 mobile phones in the possession of the suspects and the three- wheeler which was used for the robbery.   One of the suspects has been identified as an accomplice of an underworld criminal.   


The Police have also identified the Grama Niladari in Wattala who had prepared fake documents to issue a national identity card to the main suspect in this incident.   


The Kelaniya DCDB led by IP Silva and IP Kelum Sangeeth are conducting further investigations under the direction of Colombo North DIG Waruna Jayasundara and Kelaniya SP Roshan Dias.
