The interim report issued by PAFFREL regarding the Local Government Election held in Elpitiya showed that an improved political culture among the local politicians engaged in the election campaign, where no major incidents were reported.
It has been indicated in their report that there was no violence in the Elpitiya area before and until the end of the election. The report further states that though there were minor incidents they did not affect the election.
Complaints have been received regarding transporting of voters to a polling booth, distributing of chits with the names and numbers of the candidates and not removing posters and cutouts in some areas.
It was a special occasion for the citizens of Elpitiya who got the opportunity of watching the counting of votes in the polling booth itself. They commented in their report that the creation of a necessary environment for a free and fair election was made by the Deputy Commissioner of Election and the Returning Officer of Galle and Superintendent of Police in Elpitiya.
